strategic funding for environmental organizations and initiatives

People for Planet Philanthropy: Our Story
The Gap Between Urgency and Resources
An NGO leader in Indonesia replanting mangroves that protect coastlines and sequester carbon, running on volunteer labor and a shoestring budget. A forest advocate in South America working with local communities on reforestation and sustainable economic alternatives to deforestation, cutting projects because funding fell through. A regenerative agriculture teacher in Kenya transforming access to nutritious food for schoolchildren, forced to choose between hiring essential staff or buying the equipment their mission requires.
This is the pattern I’ve witnessed after five years of conversations with climate and environmental leaders around the world.
The guardians doing the essential work: healing ecosystems, restoring degraded lands, and delivering climate solutions — are often the least resourced. They are operating on passion, stretched budgets, and impossible choices.
The numbers tell us that current levels of funding won’t get us where we need to go. Financing for ecosystem restoration needs to quadruple by 2030 just to meet the scale of the climate, toxics, and biodiversity crises we face. There’s a chasm between the urgency of planetary regeneration and the resources available to those doing this vital work.
Why People for Planet Philanthropy exists
Fortunately, there’s more to this story. A growing number of Earth-conscious philanthropists recognize this gap, and they’re ready to step up. They recognize that real change happens through the committed work of frontline organizations, and that these defenders deserve to be fully funded, not constantly constrained.
People for Planet Philanthropy bridges this gap. We facilitate partnerships between philanthropists called to fund planetary healing and the leaders delivering climate solutions on the ground and in the ocean. These partnerships are a collaboration rooted in a shared commitment to life thriving on Earth.
Imagine funding that flows directly to:
- Communities gaining access to clean water and healthy nutritious food they learn to grow
- Nature recovering in degraded areas through resilient restoration work
- Educational and systemic change initiatives that encourage people to live in in symbiotic relationship with Earth’s living systems
This strategic funding opens the door to a relationship that creates ripples of impact.
If You’re Called to Fund Climate and Regenerative Leaders
What impact do you feel called to make? Maybe it’s protecting ocean ecosystems. Maybe it’s supporting Indigenous-led conservation. Maybe it’s regenerative agriculture that restores soil health and feeds communities.
We begin with identifying your values, your vision for environmental impact, and the regions or focus areas that call to you. From there, organizational matches are recommended for your consideration. These are groups we know intimately, whose leaders are trustworthy, and whose capacity for impact has been proven.
As a funder, you have access to impact updates and direct connection with organization leaders. The depth of your engagement in the initiative is your choice.
If You’re Leading an Organization Doing This Work
You’re cleaning up our oceans, delivering regenerative education, perhaps restoring vital ecosystems —and you’re doing it despite funding constraints. We want to hear from you.
We’re looking for organizations with clear missions, proven track records, (even if small-scale) and the capacity to deploy resources effectively. Our application process helps us understand your work, your needs, and your vision for expanding impact.
If selected, you’ll be matched with philanthropists aligned with your mission. You will also have implementation support available to maximize the impact of the resources you receive.
